Text Box: There are many debates on which camera or medium is the best to "make photographs" with. People argue about color as opposed to black and white; film versus digital; 35mm versus medium format. Everyone has their view of which is better. I offer this suggestion: Use the one you have or feel comfortable with. Just make photographs! That's the entire point, isn't it? Making photographs.

I use all of the mediums: color, black and white, 35mm, medium format and digital. It depends of what I'm doing.  I've found that each choice offers its own unique way of rendering what you see. I like to experiment with each one. I read an appropriate comment in Lens Work Magazine (although I do not remember who said it) "cameras do not create great photographs anymore than typewriters create good books". That is so true, it's the artist, the hobbyist, the amateur, the professional, in short the person behind the camera that does the creating. So, what does all this mean? It means use what you have and don't worry about the other "stuff".

Get out there and photograph!

Your equipment DOES NOT affect the quality of your image. The less time and effort you spend worrying about your equipment the more time and effort you can spend creating great images. The right equipment just makes it easier, faster or more convenient for you to get the results you need.”
