Competition 2017 Monthly Categories


2017 Contests & Themes

      Each month’s contest will be open for entries from the Dec 1, 2016 and close at 11:30 PM      on the Saturday following the general meeting for that month.

       Each month’s contest will have a single theme, with specific rules described below.

January –  OPEN – Any subject and any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted.

February –  OPEN – Any subject and any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted.

March –      RED – Any subject and any kind of image manipulation are permissible, however the color RED is to be the dominant color in the image. The color may be vibrant or subdued, but it   is NOT to extend into the Blue (Maroon) or Yellow (Orange). Think in terms of red cherries or Santa Claus. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted

AprilNATURE – These images can be landscapes, geologic formations, weather, and extant organisms. The story telling value of the photograph is more important than the technical details. Subjects MAY be in controlled conditions, such as zoos, however. Images of hybrid or cultivated plants or feral or domesticated animals are NOT allowed. Image manipulation is basically limited to cropping and minor adjustments to brightness and contrast provided the Nature Story is not changed. Important: See the section on NATURE Division Definition under PSA rules for additional details. These rules apply in total.

MayMUSIC – The image must convey the concept of music being created or enjoyed. Images of instruments by themselves, do NOT meet this criteria. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted

JuneFLOWERS – Images of flowers either wild or domestic with the emphasis on close-ups, but that does not exclude images of masses of flowers. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted. PSA Nature rules DO NOT APPLY.

JulyMOTION – These images must portray motion of a person or thing. Techniques such as stop action, panning, or blurring, might be used other techniques that achieve the objective are permissible. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted

August TRAVEL – These images should express the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. Close-ups must provide information about the surrounding environment. Post processing/manipulation is limited to cropping and minor tonal adjustments. Important: see the PSA section PHOTO TRAVEL DEFINITION for more detail. These rules apply in total.

SeptemberCONSTRUCTION – These image should convey some aspect of the construction of something physical by something animate. Building crews working on a house, decorating a cake or a bird building a nest are examples. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted.

OctoberMONOCHROME (Black & White or Sepia) – Any subject. Use your camera or software to convert the image to black and white or sepia. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted.

NovemberWEATHER – A weather phenomena must be the main subject of this image. Clouds, storms, and sunsets are examples. Any type of post processing/manipulation is permitted.
